Saturday

Peter says: “Lord, to whom shall we go?”
Jesus has just been telling
apparently a fairly large group of disciples about himself as the bread of
life.
This is just too much for some of
them to accept and so they leave.
They stop following Jesus.
So Jesus asks the twelve: “Do you also want to leave?”
And Peter gives that wonderful
response: “Lord, to whom shall we go?”
I think, maybe I hope we would
voice the same words as Peter.
To whom shall we go who is one
with the Father?
To whom shall we go who reveals
to us what and who God is like?
To whom shall we go who shows us
the way to fullness in life?
To whom shall we go who gives us
purpose for life?
To whom shall we go who tells us that
our life on earth is a mission from God?
To whom shall we go who defines
that mission as growing in the image of God?
To whom shall we go who defines
that mission as bringing God’s kingdom of peace and care and compassion to our
world?
To whom shall we go who lets us
know that in him, we are really brothers and sisters with all other human
beings on this earth?
And to whom shall we go who
reveals that dying to self leads to new life?
To whom shall we go who reveals
this core mystery of faith?
To whom shall we go who promises an
eternal place in God’s heavenly home?
In brief, I think, I hope Peter’s
response is also our response this morning.
