Tuesday of the 2nd Week of Easter
April 5, 2016        8:30am Middle School


Readings:     Acts 4.32-37
                  John 3.7b-15

 

What does Jesus mean when he says in today’s gospel that “You must be borne from above”?
[4 eight graders were asked to develop an answer to this question in preparation for Mass and for sharing during homily time.]

Possible answers that I will share with the students.  These ideas are what it means to be borne from above:

Look at the big picture.  Like looking down from an airplane or from a mountaintop at the land below.    Like experience at Niagara Falls looking down on falls from the tower restaurant.  See wide vision of life.  Care for the common good. 

Look at the consequences of actions.  Like smoking pot or getting into drugs.  Like bullying someone else.  What does it do to others?  To me?  Look at long-term of things.

Decide upon behavior by God’s will and commandments and Jesus’ teachings.  Make all of this a benchmark.


Be rooted in God for strength and guidance.
