Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows, Cycle A - September 15, 2014

Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows

September 15, 2014      6:30am

Mary stands by the cross of Jesus.
In this picture of Jesus’ Mother, we see an example and an inspiration for mothers and fathers today.

A mother stands by the cross as she holds her daughter’s hand when the little girl is being wheeled into surgery
A father stands by the cross of Jesus when his son repeatedly breaks curfew and may be getting involved with the wrong crowd.
Parents stand by the cross of Jesus when their daughter is heartbroken over the break-up of a relationship or a failed marriage.
A mother and father stand by the cross of Jesus when their son makes no room for God for his life and seems to be living just for himself.

So, I think lots of mothers and fathers have to do what Mary did.
They have to stand by crosses that sometimes just come to their children and sometimes may even be chosen by heir children.
Mary’s stands by Jesus’ cross in today’s gospel and in doing that, she gives an example and an inspiration to moms and dads.
On this day in honor of Mary as Our Lady of Sorrows, let’s pray especially for all parents – that they will find strength, steadiness, hope and wisdom in the image of Mary standing at the cross of Jesus.

May Mary help them to cope with sufferings and lead their children through the crises of life to the resurrections that Jesus makes possible.
